Single-Family Energy Efficiency Matching Grants

The City of Longmont is offering Matching Grants of up to $500 to property owners of single- family homes, duplexes and triplexes who implement qualified energy efficiency measures. These Matching Grants are in addition to other rebates available from Xcel or the Governor's Energy Office. Some of the qualifying measures implemented on primary residences are also eligible for Federal Tax Credits. A blower-door level Energy Audit is required prior to applying for the Matching Grants. Qualifying grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Qualifying measures:

  • High efficiency furnaces (90% AFUE or higher)
  • Energy Star refrigerators
  • Energy Star (or equivalent) water heaters
  • Ultra low-flow toilets
  • Replacing air conditioners with evaporative coolers

Program details

The Matching Grants are available to owners of residential properties in the City of Longmont who have an active utility account with Longmont Power & Communications. Matching Grants under this program are 50% of the cost of qualified measures, after rebates from the Governor’s Energy Office and Xcel, up to $500 per property. For example, if a home owner plans to install a 95% AFUE furnace there are currently up to $1120 of grants and rebates available. The components of that $1120 include: Up to $500 in a rebate from the Governor’s Energy Office, a $120 rebate from Xcel, and $500 from a City of Longmont matching grant. In addition, there is a Federal Tax Credit of up to $1500 for high efficiency furnace making a total of $2620 available in cost offsets.

This initial program has funding for approximately 50 single-family homes, duplexes or triplexes and does require an energy audit.

The Process

  1. Download, print and complete the Single-Family Matching Grant Application for eligible measure(s) which includes estimate sheet for each eligible measure, utility waiver and a copy of your Home Energy Audit
  2. Receive ‘Notice to Proceed’ with work
  3. Install or purchase the measure within 60 days after receiving ‘Notice to Proceed’
  4. Complete Single Family Application (Part 2) with the required ‘Project Information’ and final contractor invoice (include permit costs)
  5. Receive a confirmation that your application has been completed and accepted
  6. A check will be sent in the mail from the CRC within 4-8 weeks upon completed application acceptance
