Orphan Solar Program

During 2005 and 2006, the Center for ReSource Conservation’s Orphan Solar Program provided system evaluations and financial resources to bring “orphaned” solar domestic hot water systems back to life.

With funding from Boulder County’s Drop in the Bucket campaign, the Orphan Solar Program provided technical support to assess and troubleshoot 1970’s and 1980’s era solar thermal systems.  The program also offered 50% cost sharing with Boulder County homeowners to repair failing and non-functioning systems.  The CRC managed this program for approximately 18 months during which time we assessed 99 solar systems and facilitated repairs to 52 systems.  The overall program results are provided below.

The Orphan Solar Program is no longer active.  The CRC would like to thank Boulder County, our contractors Solar Consultants and Nova North and all of the homeowners that participated in the program for contributing to energy conservation and reducing greenhouse gases.

"The Center for ReSource Conservation's Orphan Solar Program encouraged us to restore our 1980's-era solar hot water system. We're now glad to be once again making free hot water, using less natural gas, and most importantly, reducing our home's air pollution output. Thanks for a great program!"
