CRC's ReWards Reception set to celebrate resource conservation in style

Outdoor awards celebration and fundraiser scheduled for June 5th at Boulder's St. Julien Hotel, a zero waste facility

This year the CRC's popular ReWards Reception & Auction is going to be quite a party ... Boulder-style, of course! We've moved the event to the St. Julien (complete with amazing views of the flatirons!) and a warmer time of year so you can fully enjoy Boulder’s climate, culture, and scenery. With just five weeks until the celebration, where we honor Colorado's environmental leaders and raise funds for the CRC, be sure to get your ticket today as it always sells out.

Please note that with a paperless approach this year you won't receive an invitation by mail. Tickets are available online only and are $100 each. We're sure it's the most fun you’ll ever have at a nonprofit fundraiser so buy your tickets online now.

Generously sponsored by Roche Colorado and BP.

It’s almost watering season: tune up your sprinkler system today

CRC offers free sprinkler inspections for homeowners

Thanks to the recent wet weather, it’s not quite time to start watering your grass. However, it is time to tune up your sprinkler system for the summer!

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Perform a visual inspection. Turn on the system, and walk around looking for problems. Common problems include overspray, leaks, sunken or tilted heads, uneven watering, and vegetation blocking sprinkler heads.

2. Fix any of the problems found on the visual inspection.

3. Set your watering schedule. We usually recommend watering bluegrass 1.5 times per week in May, 2-3 times per week from June-August, and 1 time per week in September. We recommend ½ inch per watering.

Need help with your sprinkler tune-up? The CRC offers free sprinkler inspections with a professionally-trained auditor. The auditor will come to your house, inspect your system, and teach you how to save water. Free inspections start on June 8th and space is limited.

Sign up for your free inspection here.

Greenbelt Meadows neighborhood works together to go green and save big

By Heather Hansman, At Home Series

It doesn’t always take a village to make change. Sometimes it just takes a neighborhood. That is what happened at Greenbelt Meadows, a neighborhood with a homeowner’s association in south Boulder. In 2007 the HOA decided to have a Slow the Flow Colorado sprinkler system audit done by the Center for ReSource Conservation (CRC). It was a big success, saving the area both water and money. Since then they’ve worked to make other changes to lessen the neighborhoods impact.

According to Steve Bauhs, a resident who is a member of the HOA Board of Directors, the sprinkler audit was the first step towards conservation. “Two things came out of it,” he said. “They did the audit so we got a new irrigation system, and then we ended up saving a lot of money.”    [ Full article ]

First Earthfest makes a splash in Boulder

Inaugural Boulder Earth Day celebration braves the elements, promotes sustainability

The first Earthfest Boulder drew large crowds to the Boulder Theater on Saturday, April 18th with live music and a diverse lineup of vendors and environmental groups promoting awareness of sustainability. Keith Desrosiers, director for the Center for ReSource Conservation, said the event’s goal was to unite people around environment causes and, he thinks, they’ve accomplished that.

“A single person making an environmental action is a single person making an environmental action,” he said. “But when everybody comes together and realizes they’re doing it together, it’s powerful and it’s important and that’s what we have here today.”   [ Full article ]
