This year, we're excited to announce that the CRC's Earth Day 5k is merging with a new event, Earthfest Boulder. Earthfest is a full day of "sustainability edu-tainment" where guests will enjoy organic food, live local bands, interactive family activities, the Earth Day 5k Run/Walk, Dirt Days Adventure Challenge, and BMA short track mountainbike race series. Garden-In-A-Box revives average Boulder landscape

Landscape is sensitive to the climate and visually appealing 

Dacanay ResidenceWhen Beverly Dacanay and her husband Daniel Martin decided to re-landscape their yard they didn’t do it halfway.  “We didn’t want to preserve any grass,” Dacanay said.  “We didn’t want to use so much water; it didn’t make any sense to have that kind of landscape when it really didn’t fit the environment.” Martin admits that in their effort to save water they had neglected their land. 

“Our place was an eyesore compared to the neighbors,” he said.  So, they ripped out the bluegrass that covered almost their entire quarter acre in South Boulder, and went to work creating a landscape that was both sensitive to the local climate and visually appealing.

Does your home have great examples of energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, recycled building materials and/or green building design?  Apply to have your home on the 2009 Boulder County Tour of Solar & Green Homes!  Your home does not need to have all the latest green bells &whistles. We look for a variety homes with many educational elements to help inspire others to implement sustainable measures in their own home! Applications due Friday, May 1st, 2009.
